Petition

Here's a petition awaiting approval from Senedd Cymru/Welsh Parliament. If it's not accepted, then Cymru and its Government are not as diverse and welcoming as they like to boast.

                                                               ........................

Make the oath of allegiance to the monarch optional for members of the Senedd.

In the Senedd, the Oath of Allegiance is a promise to be loyal to the British monarch and their heirs and successors. However, there is no requirement for members of the Northern Ireland Assembly to take an oath of allegiance.

Recently, the Canadian province of Quebec has passed a law making an oath of allegiance to the monarch optional for legislature members.

We urge the Welsh Government to pass a law making an oath of allegiance to the monarch optional for members of the Senedd.

Any allegiance should be to Cymru and its citizens, not a colonial monarch.
